SIA Door Supervisors Course – Syllabus

The SIA Door Supervisor training course is designed to prepare learners for work in the private security industry. The course is split into four units, combining theory and practical elements.

Unit 1: Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry

  • Understanding the role of a security operative

  • Key legislation and responsibilities

  • Health and safety awareness

  • Fire safety principles

  • Emergencies and procedures

  • Effective communication and customer care

 

Unit 2: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry

  • Roles and responsibilities specific to door supervisors

  • Licensing law and age restrictions

  • Drugs misuse awareness

  • Dealing with disorderly and vulnerable individuals

  • Counter-terrorism awareness

  • Strategies for effective searching and entry control

  • Arrest procedures and powers of authority

 

Unit 3: Application of Conflict Management in the Private Security Industry

  • Effective communication skills for conflict resolution

  • Recognising and reducing risk in conflict situations

  • De-escalation techniques and problem solving

  • Post-incident considerations and reporting

 

Unit 4: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry

  • Legal and professional frameworks for physical intervention

  • Risks associated with physical intervention

  • Safe and proportionate techniques

  • Protecting yourself and others in high-risk situations

  • Escorting and safe removal of individuals

  • Teamwork in physical intervention scenarios

 

Assessment

  • Multiple-choice examinations (Units 1, 2 & 3)

  • Practical assessments (Unit 4 – Physical Intervention)

  • Scenario-based exercises

 

Course Duration & Certification

  • Duration: Typically 6 days (depending on delivery format)

  • Awarding Body: Recognised awarding organisation (e.g., Highfield, City & Guilds)

  • Qualification: Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry

  • Outcome: Enables learners to apply for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence

⚠️   Note: Learners must also hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)                         certificate before attending this course, as required by the SIA.
